I`ve got a bit of vibration at the back of my chim` at 70 ish mph. the car is fine in all aspects apart from this, I`m thinking it`s something simple like a wheel out of balance. What else could cause this ? any help much appreciated.

That's the first thing to get checked, and so easy to check too. S o do it to eliminate it from the enquiry.

After that it's two categories of issues - harmonic vibrations relating to the rotational speed in the rear transmission, or something that is working loose.
Diff, CV joints, bearings, callipers - time to take it to an expert so he can drive it and work it out what's going on IMHO - you can spend a fortune changing things that don't need changing.

Is it definitely at the back, do you feel it through your hands or your bum?
The easiest thing to check is the wheel balancing, you may have thrown a weight off or even have a little buckle in one of the wheels. I had slight buckle in a rear wheel but the vibration only came in about 100mph.

I had very noticable vibration around 75-80 and above. Felt like waves going through the car every second. Wheels was balanced and no buckling. I took out the driveshaft and regreased it and I noticed some stripes at the end going in to the gearbox. Turns out the bush in the GB was worn, and the shaft vibrates at high speeds. Now its really smooth! If you DIY, make sure the new bush is honed so that the shaft runs smoothly in it... lubricate with atf.

Ole, my symptoms sound the same as you had, the door mirrors vibrate as well. I`ll have a look at the bush and shaft, thanks. Is the bush readily available ?

As Ole said, that's a real suspect or it may be easier and just be a prop UJ.

Check with a small pry bar as well as a good tug in all directions!

Phazed, cheers mate, I`ll do that too. I had something similar on my S a few years ago, in the end I replaced u/j, c/v joints and then not long after, the diff started to rumble rolleyes that needed to be replaced, TVR`s eh, good fun wink
