Door removal/refit

Evening chaps.

I'm in the process of having my n.s door repaired, I got it off without too much bother.
However i will be refitting it this Sunday all being well and wonder if anybody has any tips?
Any advice as to whether there should be a washer between the hinge bush and the bracket on the body?
Any advice warmly welcomed.

Ive only had experience with my own car but mine didnt have any washers between the door bush and hinge, but there were packing pieces between the hinge and the body which are set at the factory.

When I refitted mine I assembled the hinge on the door in the order they came off and used card on the door step (where the stainless trim is) to pack the door to the right height, then refitted the door hinge bolts from the inside, definitely a two person job though!

Remember to feed the wiring through first...really hard to do if you forget!

Did you take off your door at the hinge or off from the inside of the door?

I took my doors off from inside the car, then stripped the hinges from the doors for painting.

Sorry for all the questions, did you replace the bushes that is fitted inside the door hinges?

Nope, mine had no play in them.

No play, no need to replace.

How do the doors come off?

I've got a loose drivers side door that needs new bushes but I'm blowed if I can see how to actually remove the door!

After opening the door I can see the top and bottom hinge brackets are bolted to some threaded rod - the end of some bolts I assume.

But the nuts are welded to the brackets. Is this normal?

Should I be accessing the other end of the bolts from inside the car?

Inside the door there are two bolts, they can be a bit tight so go easy. Also access is a bit tight, a decent socket set will do the trick.

I would tape card around the sills and anywhere it could mark the paint . Its a horrible job .

It was a bit of an arse to do, the most annoying things I found were the lower bushe wouldn't budge for love nor money and lining the door back up was a slow progress, but worth it in the end as the door now glides open and closes without slamming it.

Guy before you get stuck in wiping the door off
Check the top hinge bolt
Open the door and wigle the door up and down while watching the bolt

They come loose and make the door bad to shut
