Hi,

I've had my 400 for 10 years, it's a 94 and it has the door locks that can be opened with the key. My dad has just purchased a ratty 95 that we are going to renovate, this has the door buttons but only metal caps no lock underneath. The later car also has remote locking that works fine.

The other question is would my 94 with the door locks originally had a remote fob as I have never had one as the alarm seems to set via the door lock...

The more I read about these cars the more I realise they were just making it up as they went along!! biggrin

Mine is a '96 and has the "blank" door buttons. All locking and unlocking is done on the key fob. The keyhole behind the rear numberplate on mine operates the boot release.

Should it be removed? I don't see why, the fact a keyhole is present (although hidden) is no different to a keyhole being present and on show, is it?

Sorry, didn't realise this was an issue as assumed it was something that had been added afterwards. Mine has nothing like this fitted. Never actually lock mine as there seems little point..

Is the remote locking a retro fit or should a 94 with the lock barrels in the rear quarter have a remote?

It's standard fit, but whereabouts on the timeline it was introduced is anyone's guess.

Please could you remove the bit in your original post about the additional method you've found of opening the car door - it definitely shouldn't be in the public domain.

Yes, it should be removed, because the additional method described circumvents the key-fob method of opening and is therefore a lot less secure.

To answer your second question - in 1994 (perhaps only for a certain number of cars) they did not have fobs for the alarm - it was operated only by the key. Mine is the same.
