Hi - Desaster Paintwork Chimi

Hi!
This is Rene from Austria, 40 years old, having a Chimaera 400 for 2 years now!

Last year i had an accident with the car...small one, but enough to crack the bonnet and the left wing partly!

i have good experience in fibreglass work , so i was able to fix the Job....cost me about 2 months !!
but i got a good result!

then i was looking for a painter...it was almost impossible to find one!

a firm in Graz took the Job...

during cooler and cold season everything was fine...just tiny things to see ..

last week it was very hot (35°C) and 2 days later I saw the Desaster
cracks all over the bonnet, and the wing...not the damage-repaired one....THE OTHER one!

paint went off where the headlights are ....car Looks really ugly now!
i have NO Chance to get back Money, i guess .....

so i am looking for a paint shop that can fix that Problem...i think, the whole colour + everything beyond it has to be sanded down!!!

i don`t want to spent that much Money, but with those marks i can not sell the car...which i would like to at the moment!!
(no fun for 2 summer-seasons!!)

maybe you can give me a hint or so!

That looks like it's been very poorly primed for the paint to be pealing away like that.

Get some good instant advice from a first class body sprayer eg those used by BMW Merc or VW.

Are the cracks that have appeared actually in the original place to where the damage was out of interest? To be honest 99% of the time when we see this with either fibreglass or plastic bumpers when they are cracked, it's the actual repair method that falls over and causes the failure, not the paint used or the application techniques.
It is critical when repairing any form of cracks in these sort of materials that the repair is done in the right way with the right prooducts or there is no hope of a decent paint job that will last when exposed to the temperature changes and movement etc that you have mentioned.

i will miss it.... i agree...but look at that!

at the Moment i don't have the Money and i don't want to invest another 3k ...that's not worth it!

the damage, that i have repaired, is still ok...no cracks in the section of the left wing!
just where NOTHING happened cracks are appearing!

under the Hood, left side, where the sticker is, paint seems to go off, because paint is too thick, AND the primer has no base to stay on the paint beyond....was not sanded in the correct way!

on Friday i will a talk with an expert of the workers insurance...maybe there is a solution !


i even took into account, to cut out that cracked parts.....for better cooling

I dont think thats a paint reaction- but it looks like the filler primer coat has contracted under the top coat, and as you say if its been heavily sprayed, the filler primer shrinks as the solvent dries out, but you would have to pour it on to do this!

are you saying these cracks are where the car was "NOT" damaged

The bit you repaired is all still fine?

that is right!!!

the repaired section is still ok......and there are no cracks in the paint....

only thing : the front section of the bonnet near the "power dome" that i have built cracks are coming out maybe because the gel coat is broken....but that is not my problem!!

I see the area that was repaired was as indicated on your photo but the entire front end was resprayed. It seems here was something not done right when it was prepared.

You have a non standard bonnet too so maybe heat dissipation / air flow is different but I'd think unlikely to affect the paint finish that much.

No one seems to have stated the obvious - Go back to the garage that did the respray and speak to them.
Most places who have a good reputation like to keep it that way and will rectify these sort of issues. Of course you have to be happy with giving them your car back.

If they are not helpful get an independent opinion from a well respected bodyshop ( as mentioned one who does work for main dealers - BMW,Merc, Porsche etc) and then pursue through the courts - atleast this is what I would do in the UK, bnot sure on the German legal system.

@swallet: i have already tried to speak to the man who sprayed it....no Chance...he was very unfriendly (his Boss was friendly, told me, wtthout a bill no Chance ...and even with a bill no Chance...seems to be Special Thermoplast colour and its reactions to the new paint)

now i will try to find a way of "spot repair".....i know...not best solution, but only way for a while to collect Money for a respray of the front end!

bonnet: with the damage to it, it decided to make an inverted power dome....Looks great!

last week stepper motor was broken additionally...but got a new one right now!

maybe IF I KEEP IT, i will make some changes to the bodywork that make the car extraordinairy!!

but i think at first i need a new or good used bonnet without any cracks...it is the better solution instead of sand the old ones down an rebuilt it again!!

does anybody know, what TYPE OF COLOUR was used on the Chimaeras ?!?!
