My Chimaera is belatedly coming out of hibernation. It sits under a cover in a garage on a trickle charger. I start it every month. However tonight I was unable to get the immobiliser to respond. The alarm is deactivated by the key fob and everything on the dashboard comes alight on turning the key (so the battery is not flat) but no sound of the fuel pump. On pushing the immobiliser key into the recess the little red light does not appear. Would this indicate that my immobiliser is knackered?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like mine was...I had the whole system replaced by Carl Baker as the alarm and immob were 15 years old.
he was very reasonable and he comes over from France and has a weeks session at Dan Taylor TVR every now and then
the alarm now takes hardly any load out of the battery, when sat for a time, and the fob works from miles away from the car
where before I nearly needed to be IN the car for the alarm to see the fob

Thanks Snorky. I found your thread on the subject and have sent an email asking when Carl is next in England. It sounds like a modification that would be good to have in any case, I hate the fact that I have to be right next to the car to open it. I was hoping that it might just be a case of disconnecting and reconnecting the battery or something similar.

Well the car is now with Carl at Taylor TVR for one of his replacement immobilisers. Since it will be at Dan's he will service and MOT it (before I've used bespoke performance and before that TVR Power).

I'm also looking at twin ACT throttle bodies and a 20Am MAF, although this could get too expensive very quickly!

I was at Dan's on Saturday and Carl was playing with a Tuscan and a T350, (LS engined!) working his wizzardry.

As previously stated in this thread, they're all of an age now and the immobiliser WILL pack up when you least want it to. Usually at a junction in the outside lane! yikes It's just a matter of time. Also considering the way the factory wired these cars from new, (Heath Robinson comes to mind) the new system will sort out all the gremlins and the whole ignition, alarm and immobiliser will work correctly and reliably for the first time in the car's life. And no, I'm not on a back-hander from Carl, (very nice man) just a convinced and satisfied customer.

Even Dan himself had the new Carl Baker system fitted to his own Chimaera when I had mine done. You know it makes sense! cloud9

Thanks for the vote of confidence, it sounds like a good investment then rather than a quick fix.

I have also been thinking about a proper mappable electronic spark and fuel system but Dan has warned me off the idea.

also Carl does a proper job rather than a lot of the alarm sellers who will sell you the old version of the immobiliser as a replacement which will be as old as the one that failed...

and you get a remote boot release button on the key into the bargain!!!

Carl has done his bit and I had a good chat to him today.

Unfortunately Dan tells me that its also pissing fuel all over the manifold so it sounds like the fuel lines have withered!eek

I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive year for the Chimp!

Does anyone have a view on Aerotech braided fuel lines?
