Thermostat upside down?

I had a cool running problem in my 98 400 and fitted a new thermostat - no improvement. Someone in a previous post on this suggested that the new thermostat might be duff so I've now got another replacement.

However its occurred to me that I could mistakenly have put the first one in upside down. Call me thick if you like but is that possible?.

It's not clear from the very small line drawing in the bible which way up it is. Can anyone clarify this please?

Err, I would doubt it.

It should go in with the brass bit facing down. I doubt it would fit properly the other way up.

What do you mean mate - the entire thing appears to be made out of brass?

Don't know whether there is a difference between pre-serpentine & serpentine engines, but on serpentine engines I believe that the spring side of the thermostat should face the engine block. That's certainly the way mine is fitted.

Jiggle pin goes to the top if thats what you're asking.

Use the spare temp sender on top of the head(if fitted) it will not read colder than the water stat rating, like the TVR one will. It will read different, but the original was hardly accurate.
