I've stripped and cleaned the wiper motor which now works beautifully, replaced park switch and also stalk. Bloody wipers only work on the top speed and don't park. I reckon it's the relay.....probably would have been a good idea to do that first banghead anyone have a pointer to which one it is?

Thanks chapsbiggrin

Ps on the plus side it now starts every time and no clicks and fingers crossed bounce

It's a timer not a common relay. Check the fuses, one of the terminals on the park switch connector should have continous +12v (with ign on) that the park switch uses ~ the timer relay doesn't do the parking.

Oh bugger, the wipers only work on the fastest speed and don't park, anyone know what that could be?

Pull the connector & analyse it....

OTOMH there are:
GD
+12v ign
+12v speed 1 (+ the pulse for intermittent / swipe / wash..)
+12v speed 2

AIUI, a fault in the speed 1 connection would pretty much take out all but the speed2, however they would still park as that relies on the ign +12v constant supply (so that must also be at fault).

You can see the simple logic if you bench test (or take apart) the park switch, it's not terribly sophisticated just simple mechanical switching off the cam on the gear wheel.

Just a quick tip that may help. I had problems with parking on my 4.5 On looking at the diagram it seems the parking relay is separately fused (No.18 I think on mine) anyhow this fuse also protects the brake lights. It was the wiper motor blowing the fuse when parking. So check your brake lights if they are not working you could be half way to the problem.
