Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem to mine?
I purchased a non Lucas sender from the local motor factors and upon removal of the old one it appeared that the new thread was too big.
Duly returned and a Lucas SNB802 was purchased from ebay and for good measure one of Rimmer Bros. replacements.
I have just tried to change them again and both of the new ones are a loose fit in the manifold and will not tighten fully! The original fits perfectly and the manifold thread does not appear to be stripped.
The irony is that I was only changing it as a precaution!
Any thoughts gratefully received.

Dont use a Lucas one (unless its new old stock) the Lucas ones banded about are generic crap inc Intermotor, CI, Motorquip etc etc these are proper OE quality and work properly FAE http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-Classic-3-5-...

I have just ordered the part in the link above so will try that. It looks more substantial too with its brass body, instead of the plastic one I have.
The car incidentally is a 1997 400, a very recent purchase and no doubt the subject of a very expensive learning curve!

Thanks Simon, until I read this, I was feeling happy that my local motor factors has a Lucas one purchased and waiting for collection tomorrow! Well, my one was stamped as a Lucas one, put it in today and the car wouldn't fire, so put my old one back in and it fired up.
Contacted the seller on eBay, he's agreed to refund it (although took a strange attitude towards my problem)The one in the car certainly isn't a Lucas part, looks like a pattern part, it was in a fairly sorry looking state, lots of build up on the brass.

I used a Cambiare temp. sender with no probs and at just £4 + vat it maybe the so called "specialists" are having a giraffe! I have also found a supplier of Gaz coilovers at £160 less than the "specialists" that advertise in a well read club publication. Do your homework boys and girls there is a lot of BS about!
