Hi guys,

I have had a squeeking door for a few years now, gradually getting worse to the point where it now squeeks constantly.

I initially thought the culprit was a dropped door, but after having it redone 6 times in a year (!), accepted this was not the cause.

I had noticed that the door is not sitting flush with the outside of the body - and I now firmly believe that this is the culprit.

I think the door is not being pulled tight enough into the body, leaving an area of play - and vibrations through the body mean the door moves about, grating against the frame and the rubbing fibreglass is causing the squeeking.

So my question is; can you alter the position of the door catch (in the frame) and the square metal "loop" (on the door)..?

I think from memory there are 3 star-bolts per component - do they allow for minor adjustment laterally..? I think I only need about 5-10mm overall...

If not, then how do you align the doors on these cars..?

Squeeking is now really getting on my nerves, so would really like to remedy it punch

Thanks,

Dom

Yep, undo the hook bit and adjust it so that the door closes tighter. On my one if the door closes too tight it doesn't spring all the way open when I push the button so it takes a couple hundred attempts to get it to sit right.

I changed the door bushes on the passenger door last month as the door was a swine to shut.
It was an awkward job to do, not hard but getting at the bolts and getting the bushes out was a little awkward.
Once it was refitted with new bushes, the door opens so much more freely, I did still have to adjust the door to get it all lined up correctly, but I am pleased with the results and if your squeak is coming from the hinge, that'll be your problem.

Very happy now smile

Got this job to do on mine, i have noticed the door is rubbing in a couple of places on both sides and it makes the body rattle when driving. Also the boot lid is higher on the drivers side when closed so that will also need attention

Also, have this problem on driver's side. If you could let me know how you sort it that would be great. I've tried un-doing the bolts and re-fitting but couldn't get it to line up. Is it something to do with the strut being on the driver's side?

Boot lid is sitting higher on my drivers side too. Tried adjusting the hinges to no avail. Removed the gas strut at the boot lid end and it now sits perfect. The problem is the gas strut. Mine seems far too strong for the job as there is a lot of force there. I have left mine detached for now but will try mounting it upside down and back to front to see if it makes any difference, if not I will be looking for a weaker less powerful gas strut.

I had the same problem with the boot lid. Turned out the gas strut was double the strength than recommended! I took off and left it without a strut for about 6 weeks and it settled down. Fitted correct strut and no further problems smile

Well, door is now flush, and squeaking improved but not gone frown

However, have found that pushing the top-rear corner of the door causes the squeak - so at least I have now found the cause...

Door does not appear to have dropped (from what I can see), just appears to have rotated *very slightly* anti-clockwise, so the top-rear edge is in contact with the door frame...

Is it possible to adjust only the top section of the door hinge very slightly towards the headlamps, so that it will rotate the door very slightly clockwise and bring the rear-top corner of the door up slightly? (rather than the whole door upwards, which will then make it too high with respects to lining up with the door frame)

Thanks,

Dom
