Hi all , bought my 1996 Chim 500 last August, Nearside Upper rear wishbone bush failed, removed the upper wishbone, and found a split poly bush, the bush inner metal tube looks new, but the rest of the bush is in pieces, anyway seems this bush should be original TVR due to exhaust manifold being so close, heat has caused the bush to fail. I have updated Racing Green wishbones, ordered the bush, the inside diameter of the wishbone is 1.0 inch, the outside diameter of the new bush is 1.065 inch, so the bush is 1.5 mm larger in diameter than the wishbone, I do not want to split the wishbone. Looking at the bush I guess it will contract due to the rubber inner, but do not want to put on the press and split the wishbone, seems wrong to me

Any thoughts

Cheers Steve

I had to clean the holes out on mine before I pushed the bush in because of the amount of surface rust in there, the hole didn't even look cylindrical when I pushed the old bush out. Don't know what to suggest if yours are all clean inside but I took a good millimeter out of mine in the clean up and would have never got the bush in there without doing it.

When you buy the Powerflex poly bush kit for the front upper wishbone there is a piece of heat mat included plus clips to secure it in place to protect the bush from the heat.

I have fitted the full set of Powerflex....not cheap but very good quality.

Colin at TVRSSW is now a retailer for them.

Both rear bushes on the front upper wishbones need to be heat wrapped to stop the poly from melting. If they are not protected they will melt and fail.[assuming they are poly bushes and not standard rubber]
2 choices fit the standard rubber bush in the 2 critical places or better still buy 2 new poly ones, which should come with enough heat shield material to protect them.

I have racing green tubular wishbones, seems I need a 25.4mm outside diameter bush that is normally fitted to the front bush, my front wishbone upper rear wishbone bore is 25.4mm I believe the standard wishbone is 27mm, hence bushes don't fit, I have now ordered the bush that normally fits the front of wishbone, both bushes need to be 50.5mm length, I have also ordered a powerflex poly bush, hopefully one will fit, I will also try to protect from manifold heat

Cheers
