TVRs Unreliable????

After all the issues that i have had recently with my Chim, i eventually bit the bullet and took her to Classic Le Mans last weekend. After 847 miles, 2 laps of the track, minimal oil and water usage, she made it safely back. Well pleased and happy.

I had to use the jump leads I carry in my Chim at the 24hr race this year.

I helped out by jump starting a modern Audi. :-)

700 mile round trip for my Griff and me to the Classic.

I lost count of the number of euro boxes I saw broken down on the way back, and a Ferrari before we even got as far as Arnage, and a GT40 on the N138 but I never saw a TVR broken down all weekend.

TVRs Unreliable????

+2 except I did have a relay fail on me just outside Rouen on Friday.

Wired a new live feed for the ECU off the immobiliser and fitted a remote switch on the petrol pump/gas solenoid terminal on the relay block.

Effectively a relay bypass as I wasn't carrying a spare relay

Any car old or new can have a relay failure and this type of issue certainly isn't exclusive to TVRs.

Our cars are quite simple really, my trusty multimeter, some twin core wire, a spare switch & a cool head is all I needed to get myself back on the road.

On something modern I would have almost certainly needed low loader & a main dealer.

Breakdowns are always a pain, but in many ways I'd much rather have one in a TVR than a modern car because at least I know I've got a fighting chance of fixing it myself.

The best bit of my breakdown was rolling onto the Le Mans campsite in the darkness to be greeted by a heroes welcome from all my wonderful mates.

Much clapping & hugs followed by a huge amount of beer as my buddies pitched my tent for me

Then I set about fixing the Porsche & the Sunbeam, only one of my gang's four breakdowns was TVR related

Pleased for you really. But why would you expect to have any problems after only 700 miles? Clarkson would have a field day with these threads.

If you had been through what I went through with my car up to 2 days before going, then you too would be pleased!
