body off question
Discussion
Has it left any of the bolt sticking out?
I had this handed back to me by my engine builder a couple of years ago, he'd snapped the front bolt when he was trimming the bodywork ( which really didn't need to be done)
And then he said he couldn't fix it!

I then had to glass the hole he left back in

A few minuets with an extractor and it came out.

Hi just started a body off and a front mounting bolt snapped and a rear one snapped, at first i thought it would ease past if i were to lift one end at a time but now thinking to just drill them out to be on the safe side
what do you think?
Get a hacksaw or reciprocating saw in the gap and cut off the broken remains of the bolts. This way you won’t do any more damage to the bodywork.what do you think?
Once you have the body off and the chassis up on trestles the task of drilling out and re-tapping the fixings will be that much easier. If all else fails you can cut out the captive nut and fit a new one as you will already have the welder fired up.

Yeah i think it will be best to cut off rather than repair the body later.
been reading alot of old body off threads and about different coatings and i keep changing my mind between por 15 and epoxy mastic. Today I'm swaying towards epoxy but probably change my mind on Monday when I read another thread

I thought galvanising was the popular method these days... I'll possibly be doing mine in the winter layup. Not sure what to use either at this point.Mines in for a body off job at the moment and it's down to be a zinc primed and powder coated. Is that what you mean by galvanise? Or do people hot dip them? I'm still concerned over internal corrosion. I'm tempted by putting another layer over the powder coating, and something to protect outriggers from stones and some form of guard in the wheel arches to stop crap from ending up collecting on top of the outrigger.
I had this happen to me, a lower rear bolt.
There is not room to drill these out because of the shape of the boot floor.
As the front two had come out I lifted the front then wiggled the body back so that it came off the bolt.
To remove the remains of the bolt I welded a bit of metal to it and then once cooled it unscrewed by hand.
You may be able to do the same but it would depend on how far in it broke as there is not as much clearance to wiggle the body forwards. Therefore I would concentrate on getting the front one out somehow as the body can be removed with a back one in place.
