Was in Halfords today getting a bit of pre-mixed blue coolant and couldn't resist getting a shot of redex. Not used the stuff for like... 25 years, since I poured about half a litre into the carbs on my Renault 5 GTT and make the entire estate into a murky stinky cloud of nastiness.
Today I was more sensible and just poured it into the tank.
I must say - the results were noticeable within about 15 miles. Unsure if this is just my head making stuff up, but she seemed a far nicer ride, as though her throat had been cleared.
Am I mad ?

I also tried it about 6 weeks ago,one bottle over two tanks and I also had a feeling it felt a bit more lively.
It also achieved 27.27 mpg on the 1st tank full although that was a motorway run heading to the TITT event. The 2nd tankful result of 20.75 but that was doing the TITT run and a spirited drive to the super car event.
The tankful after without any REDEX achieved 24.24 and that was driving back from London to Birmingham via the A,B roads instead of the boring motorway.This is higher than my current overall average of 22.3.
I will certainty try it again as I also feel it just feels more lively and the fuel consumption seems to of improved a bit.

I'd say it's just placebo. Petrol is a brilliant natural cleaner anyway, and I've never pulled apart a petrol injection engine which was gunky and grubby. Only issues I've ever seen are the injectors, which can wear or become packed with some form of corrosion, and that affects the spray pattern, which in turn affects the efficiency of the burn.
I think in the old days with carbs, it probably did something. These days, not so sure!

They did a test on this (along with a few other tuning bits) on Fifth Gear and actually found it did improve the output on the rollers by a few horsepower after a tank of it had been run through.
If I remember correctly they recommended it as the best improvement for the smallest cost.

I am actually planning to book my Jag in for a Terraclean in the next couple of weeks (anybody watch Wheeler Dealers?). Sounds like snake oil but from reading on various forums it even seems to be turning the cynics around and is really getting good results.

I had never heard of Terraclean. Looking at their website under the section 'How Terraclean works' it tells you how it was developed but not how it works.

I put my hands up to being at the very low end of the scale regarding mechanical skills and the stripping out of engines etc so I have to gain knowledge from those that are.
There are many out there who do not use V power or any of the high octane stuff but I do after having my car serviced at Powers and talking with Dom about fuel. I think it can be said that Dom is pretty highly respected and when he tells me it's best to use the good stuff.. I use the good stuff.
It's down to personal choice the same when picking which toothpaste to use or any household product. Maybe it's down to marketing or simply you liked the product you first took a stab at. That was my experience with V power,I personally feel my car runs better using it and spend at extra £5 when filling up and that is my choice.
Redex is something I had been reading about a few months ago and watched that Fifth Gear video along with many others months ago. For a £5 layout I had gathered enough information to risk spending a whole £5 spread over two tanks and from my earlier post you will see I actually think it was worth it.
Of course I have no idea if it's cleaned my injectors,reduced exhaust emissions,restored performance and gaining fuel economy is early days but have seen an improvement but that could be just down to that journey. But I don't really care what i can see that it has done as i personally feel it is running more lively and in the end of the day it's my car my money and if i feel better for spending a whole £5 then this is all that should matter.
For anyone who brushed their teeth with Sensodyne paste this morning that is their choice and uses it because he/she can maybe feel a difference. I use V power and will use again REDEX because I feel a difference... I'm sold

This morning she started and sat at tick over beautifully, wheras she has been rasping and even dieing of late... she just sat there this morning and din't struggle at all whilst I filled up the boot.
Then into london, very warm lots of stop start and M25 sitting still and crawling.... shunting was vastly improved, she was smoother than I can recall since the last tune at austec.
Big thumbs up now.

I personally think that every car will feel different in some way if you want it to. I have always run my '99 500 on the cheapest fuel I can find in the area, but last week I thought I would try some V power. What a waste of money, not the slightest noticeable difference and I regularly get 26mpg on a run whatever fuel used. One thing that will be causing problems very soon especially for the 'garage queens' is Ethanol. I do a lot of 10 years or older motorcycles and some fuel lines are delaminating, composite tanks expanding and rippling etc. I still reckon the way to reliability with few niggles is use it as often as you can so the fuel never stagnates.
