Hi all, wondered if you more technical owners could throw some light on this !

Have experienced some irregular and sudden hesitation with the Chim.

1st started 2 weeks ago sudden loss of power or throttle response at low speeds then cuts in with a jolt .

Spend 4 days driving around Norfolk all sorts of driving then not a problem .

Drove to work and back today no problems .

Popped to the pub for liquid refreshment then on the way back would rev past 1500 rpm . Stopped switched off . Re started then seemed fine.

Ecu issue ?

Any ideas ?

Not enough info to go on.. I would've been looking at the coil first if it was happening to me, all the connections looking solid and not corroded?

Don't really have more info than those symptoms I'm afraid .

100 amp fuse would be my first place to look... in fact don't just look.
Take it off, someone looked at one before & it looked fine, it wasn't 'til they took it off they noticed it had split in half. Thereby sometimes making contact & sometimes not.

Could someone remind me where this (in)famous fuse is please, what it looks like, where I get a replacement or a better option. I don't think I ever had a problem in 24k miles in my last car and none so far in my recent purchase but better safe than sorry.
Thanks

Check the 100amp fuse - I think it's attached to the lower chassis frame in the engine bay somewhere. About a 2in x 1in black box.
Then the coil and plug connections
Then check the AFM connection
Then the inspect or swap the rotor arm
Then change the ignition amp
In that order preferably.

It's hiding on the drivers side chassis leg , so time to get the jack/axle stands out and crawl underneath, best to replace with a midi type fuse.

I thought if that fuse went it just meant the alternator wouldn't charge the battery. Which in turn means low voltages throughout, hence ignition problems. Oh, hang on, ..as you were.

Would a fuse explain the switch off switch on fix ?

They crack and cause all kinds of weird symptoms.
I've even known one completely melt on a Cerb. That cause intermittent issues too.

For what it takes to check it I would do it first.
I'm very grateful not to have one of these PITA things on my pre-cat Griff.

Possibly. The fuse is a thin steel plate which can fracture because of its perilous mounting position. You may get intermittent current across it. It's a contender in any case.

OOF, beaten to the punch.

You could try bridging it to see if the symptoms go away.

Hi LMMAC,I had more or less the exact problem with my Chim . It turned out to be the AFM.

Yup, but I'd eliminate the cheap bits first.

Surely an AFM fault would be a constant fault ?
