wheel cleaning

does anyone know if chim wheels are laqured or not? and whats the best product for cleaning them?

There’re certainly painted, not sure about lacquer.

Have you tried T'cut or another lightly abrasive polish?

Pretty sure they are lacqured (SP?).

There is certainly areas on mine I notice when cleaning that looks like it is getting thin.

Doesn't T Cut take the laquer off? Any experience with the wax protector stuff? I have just bought some from Halfrods, and also use the foamy tar remover stuff they sell to clean them. I also have a part used contained of Clean Wheels but am reluctant to use it as it seems a bit caustic, even if it is effective.

I think it really depends on how dirty they are!

I had a little bit of some form of paint overspray on one of the back wheels when I first got it, I T cut that off and I haven't let the wheels get that dirty sinse, that a soapy sponge can't clean up.

I've always found Wonderwheels very good for wheel cleaning.

Don't use the pathetic applicator brush that comes in the pack though, get hold of the Autoglym specialist cleaning brush (which is amazing).

Leave the WW on for 10 minutes, rinse off and then shampoo as normal. Once dry, get some Autoglym Alloy Wheel Sealer on a cloth and apply liberally (don't spray directly onto the wheels else you'll end up with slippery stuff on your brakes).

The sealer's brilliant - for about a month after using it, any brake dust should come off through hosing, rather than having to use WW/any other cleaners...
