The wipers dont like being left unused, and hate being used on a dry screen, cover the screen in water, turn them on full speed and help them using your hand to get moving again, after a few cycles, they should work under their own steam (but will be slow) if the screen is wet.

I had this whilst they were in use a few weeks ago, again, as the screen dried out.

I took the arms off, cleaned up the splines and re-fitted. Not had a problem since.

Given your account I'd suggest you make sure the battery to chassis is earthing properly, that can throw up lots of seemingly odd events.

It's not unknown for mismatches in the fusebox / handbook, checking every fuse may be necessary.

Also, make sure the engine is running whenever you operate the wipers...

DO NOT force the wipers if they are not going to move...

Its very easy to break teeth out the rack/wheels set-up (plastic?) - and then you will have to do remedial work to fix/replace, which is a NIGHTMARE on this car as IIRC requires removing the dash, etc to just access it...

It'll be the battery connector & where that cable clamps to the chassis under the trans tunnel that is most likely to cause issues ~ they are single points of failure and whilst simple tests of continuity will pass they break down when substantial loads are put on them.

Take the wiper arms off the spindles and see if they turn then.

IMHO ..I think you should have the engine running and the alternator light out, giving the wipers 13.8V ...AND, the earth that Spend was referring to in inside the car under the carpet, just below the dash.

IF the wipers are currently 'STUCK UP' then these are currently live when the ignition is on AND the issue needs to be address ASAP. initially I would disconnect the plug whilst you get the car running and you have 13.8V.

Ok, the wipers have mysteriously started working now the car is running. Weird..
Whats weird about it? It helps if your alternator is pushing out 13.8 volts, when you battery is 11.5...
