does anybody know where you can buy an acid glass etching kit from?

I got one from Halfords - but it was in 1984.

The etching is/was on a Sunbeam I sold in 1986. Don't recall any left over. Actually I'm surprised that anything that etches glass is allowed on sale to the public. If I recall correctly from Chemistry days, the only things that attack glass are hydrofluoric acid and 'aqua regia' (mixture of sulphuric and nitric acids). Both are exceptionally nasty.

HF dissolves calcium (bone) as well as glass.....very, very nasty...

If DIY etching kits are not available, you could get one of those hobby engraving tools and do it freehand - have to be very tidy though - or maybe use it through one of those old Rotring stencils, you know, the green ones...?
