just back from hols 2weeks car back fires and engine died tried to restart' engine catches then dies again, can hear fuel pump engageing but the motor just turns over without fireing all plugs okay working okay before hols. ideas please before I pull remaining hair out.

Check for spark, being careful not to give yourself a very high voltage shock of course.

Leave it half an hour and try again - in case you flooded it the first time

Assuming you have spark and a well charged battery, hold the accelarator flat to the floor and keep cranking continually (may take over a minute) and hopefully will fire.

This didn't work for me last December. In the end I had to take all the plugs out and let the fuel evaporate for a day. Even after 12 hrs, the engine bay stunk of fuel. (Weather was cool but not frosty)

Whether hot or cold, you shouldn't have to touch the throttle with your foot to start a Chimaera, unless there are other issues.

As before, check for a spark. You could remove the king lead from the coil (support it's end of the lead) and quickly crank. You should see and hear a spark. No spark, then you need to look at the ignition amp and coil.

I've stalled my Chim pulling out of the drive on many occasions and this works for me.

Long ago a I properly flooded my Chim and the kind AA man showed me the full throttle trick. Basically it gets enough air through the engine to dry it out enough for a few cylinders to fire up and then all is well again as the others follow.

thanks for all suggestions' yknot thanks for offer ,found there was no spark checked the dizzy looked liked a coal mine inside gave it a good clean and plugs ,bobs your uncle kept the rest of my hair cheers!
