Bent rear axle
Discussion
Hi all,
Last year I replaced all the suspension bushes. When put the brakes back on I did a run out check on the discs. Right rear had about 0.75mm run out (others less than 0.1mm).
Dom did a full geo setup and rotated the disc round by 180 degrees and that seemed to sort it.
Currently on a trip in Wales and the right rear is squeaking, a nice 1 per rev.
I'll get it on the ramp when I get back and check the run out again.
If the disc has worn eccentrically it might have worn that way to compensate for a bent stub axle.
Anyone replaced one of these?
I've got to replace the CV joints anyway but I know that the drive shaft nut has a massive torqued nut.
Cheers,
Dave

I have had that one squeak per rev, initially we though it was a bit of wire rubbing, but it was just the pad not quite correctly seated after a drive shaft gaiter change. You can even get small stones stuck in between pad and disk. Has to be worth popping the calliper(s) off and seeing if there is anything evident? Assuming you have the relevant tools to hand.
Last time I had a serious grinding from the front brakes I stopped at a little village garage and the guy was so pleased to see a TVR he loaned us tools, workbench, vice, drill, gave us some high tensile bolts and we replaced a sheared calliper bolt before we continued on. I hope you find someone as nice as the proprietor of the little village garage in East Leake, Notts, if you decide to take everything apart

You have noise coming from the area of the wheels one side.
How do you test if you have a wheel bearing failing?
Swerve from side to side and see if the noise changes.
Whichever side is unloaded when the noise stops (the inside of the turn) is the one.
Not saying you have a wheel bearing fault, but turning definitely loads and unloads suspension/brake components.
Does the noise stop, or change, when you brake? My brake squeak did.
If it doesn't it might not be the brakes.

The chirping stops if I pull the hand brake on whilst moving so I think the noise is coming from the disc.
If I have a knackered bearing it might allow the shaft to run out though?
I think the shaft will be coming out when I do the cv joints.
(But then I'd need to skim the disc if it has worn out of true...new brake up grade....oh dear!)
Cheers guys,
Dave

Update.
Had the car on the lift so had another poke at the right right disc.
0.3mm TIR on the disc rim (20mm from the edge).
Clocked up the end of the drive shaft/output flange and that has zero run out.
Either the flange is not on the shaft correctly or the disc must have some muck behind it.
