Chim cutting out every few mins, immobilising

All,

Just wondering if anyones experienced anything like the following (Chim 450):

- Was running perfectly well (!)
- Parked up in town for an hour;
- On the way out of the car park (ie running for about 2 mins) the car cut out and the immobiliser engaged itself immediately;
- I disengaged the immobiliser and it started straight away, only to fail in exactly the same way in the inside lane of a roundabout 2 mins down the road. No warning whatsoever. Same deal, immobiliser straight on.
- Running at idle in the middle of the roundabout, it failed two more times;
- Finally managed to get off the roundabout and called Green Flay when it failed again.

Of course, when they arrived 45 mins later it behaved itself beautifully... no problems on the 15-minute drive home.

I don't think it's the starter motor as it always starts again straight away - the odd thing to me is that the immobiliser is coming on straight away.

Not sure it was exactly the same, but I had similar problems when the multiway plug between the ignition switch and the main loom started to play up, and again when the connections between the immobiliser and the loom went intermittant. Everything dies for a moment, and the imobiliser ensures that it doesn't come back until it's all been reset. Imagine my surprise to find that the professionally installed immobiliser had been wired in by twisting the wires together and taping over! Lot more reliable once it was properly soldered in.

Had something similar with mine, would just cut whilst driving, whether hot or cold, didnt know when it would happen next, i would stop reset the alarm on the fob and all was fine...

On impromptu inspection of the alarm unit (when changing headlamp connector) i found a whacking great crack in the alarm sounder unit,exposing the circuitry, this presumably caused the electronics to get damp, and once i sealed the crack and made sure it was water tight, the problem dissapeared...

Its worth checking the alarm unit, as if its over zelously tightened on the bracket the casing can crack... Thanks to whoever did this to mine!!

If you’ve got a META alarm system it could be the immobiliser unit getting warm. The internal relays on the immobiliser circuits don’t like getting hot and can break down with age.

I’ve had problems with mine and know of a few others, it is also linked to some of the hot start issues.
