It just popped out, can I just push it back in?

Heading down the road, yesterday and the rear view mirror landed on the dash. The steel rod having parted company with the plastic (stuck to the windscreen) base.
Is this usually glued in, there are "tangs" on the steel as it they locate into something. Is it a push in at some angle then twist?
Can't see over the hood when its down anyway but it would be nice to have the mirror back in place

ps I have the passenger door mirror fuly functioning again
