I dont have a problem with my current starter but ! as im not losing weight I thought the car should ?
I have seen topics on starters before but cant seem to find them has anyone tried these powerlite starters.
Are they worth it and is the wiring the same ? more to the point is it reliable ?

I fitted one and from day one it didn't sound like it was engaging with the flywheel quite right.
Removed it, stuck it on EBay, made a small profit, fitted a cheap Global Power starter and never looked back.
The Powerlite starter is just a modified Denso gear reduction starter like I used to fit to fork lift trucks with the Toyota four cylinder engine, don't get me wrong in this application its an excellent starter and well worth the £55 - £60 you normally pay for one.
Have you ever wondered how Powerlite can offer so many starters for so many different cars?
Well it's because in nearly every case they use that same Denso starter and just change the end plate for one that suits each application, the problem is (in my experience) they don't always machine those end plates correctly
Mine actually had two issues, firstly the throw was insufficient, secondly the pinion was not exactly centralised in relation to the mounting holes on their modified end plate.
I'm in no doubt if I'd left it on much longer it would have chewed out the ring gear on my flywheel, and that's a gearbox out job to sort.
My experience of the Powerlite starter motor was it was an extremely expensive poorly modified Denso that could easily have cost me a new ring gear.

Maybe my experience was a one off, but I wasn't about to try again especially once I ralised what the starter was originally.My Powerlite starter came direct from Powerlite, they struck me a deal at £190 when we met at Race Retro.
If people are happy to pay the best part of £200 for a £60 Denso starter with a modified end plate then who am I to object, just watch the alignment & throw when you fit it because mine definitely wasn't right on both counts.
Personally I wouldn't have one at any price, but fair play if yours is giving good service Peter
