Does anyone know where's the cheapest place to go for the wing mirror stem or that thing that holds the mirror up normally apart from when some b**tard knocked it for six??? (SGH Quote £70!!!)

If it's just the "tripod" shaped bit (that's where it usually breaks) TVR should sell you one for about £8

It is a pain in the arse to fit though, a good hour (speaker out of the door remove all the wiring etc)

good luck

have a search round this site. I remeber some thread saying it was a citroen(?) part, and there was a citreon breaker in london that would flog you one at a reasonable price

If you do a search for 'mirror' it's been covered quite a bit, with some detailed instructions on how to do it, I did one, then a week later the other side went as well, I think a TVR dealer is the best place to get them from TMS usually have them in stock, although I may have cleaned them out about £8.00 delivered to your door good luck it's not the easiest job but it's not imposible!

Yes it is a Citroen mirror (XM if I remember right) but this stops before the "tripod" don't know if this is the same as a "wing mirror carriage". Complete mirror from Citroen is £92 but doesn't have the hole (or wiring) for the door release so you still need the £8 bit from TVR. And it'll need painting. If you need the mirror unit you may get one from a TVR breakers, maybe even the right colour

Raceboy,
You've obviously done a few, I'm refitting mine in the next couple of days, don't suppose you can remember what wires go to what on the mirror motors can you three wires to the mirror, three completely different colour on the loom, I know it wouldn't take long with trial and error but I'm a bit lazy

Mine had a 5 way multi-plug, but this would not go through the hole in the mirror, so all 5 wires were cut, but 1st label them up, in my case black 1-3, white, and brown, then join them back together at the end using bullet connectors.
Then dismantle again because all you can see is ground in the mirror, repeat again, this time nothing but sky, eventually you'll get it about right

Raceboy,
For future reference, the plug comes apart. It's a bit difficult to explain but I'll have a go.
The 5 way multi plug has (obviously) 5 pins (two at the top three at the bottom) B
etween the two sets there is a bit of plastic (that goes between the moulded plastic connector (the bit that won't got through the hole for the mirror))
This bit can be pulled out (needle nose pliers) then the individual wires can be pulled out and fed through the hole for the mirror separately.

My problem is what order to re-fit them to the connector

Anyway, that might save you soldering too much in future

Had a look at the plug, gave it a bit of a tug, but it looked like I would pull the bare wires out the contacts which would have been a nightmare, I surpose it's one of those 'knowing how hard to pull' type jobs, but a TVR dealer also told me the only way to do it was to cut the wires

If you just tug the wires that's exactly what will happen, there's a locking tab inside the multi plug (between the two rows of pins) that you have to remove first. I'll take a photo as mines going back together if I remember

The orange bit? I'd removed that, but it didn't make a great deal of difference

In that case completely ignore my last post.

It is indeed a case of knowing how hard to tug

I think I pushed the pins from the other side at the same time, it's a bloody long time since I took it apart though see my profile

Feel free to ignore everything we've said and then repost when you need to rewire your mirror, you're going to need to do exactly what we've been talking about when you re-fit it.

Or you could be helpfull and note the colour order of the wires on the multi plug when you dismantle it. That would help all of us

Or you could just leave it with your dealer for a few days and pick up the £loads tab

Tell me more of these hex nuts

No it wouldn't as it would have about a 1 in 4 chance of matching your car... Another bit of TVR wizardry that has changed over the years.

Tarco,

Yeah, my reply was a bit off too, guessed you didn't mean it

I'm just bloody frustrated 'cause I only need a couple of light connectors to get my car on the road, and they're proving very elusive hence easily riled

Now piss off, it's my thread now
