Have just bought 95 chim. Given 2 fobs one works the other lights up but wont central lock or turn off alarm/ Immob. Understand that the code changes every time its locked so how can I re-progamme old fob to work?

Got a feeling it covers this in the leather bound TVR book that comes with the car... id have to check

When I bought my Chim just a few months ago my immobiliser/alarm fobs were in such a crap state that they would only open the car if held next to about two places and sometimes it took me ten minutes to get in or lock the car.
Not only was this 'not ideal' it was hugely embarrassing!

I got lots of good tips in the forum but the best one was to get in touch with Carl at TVRUK. I went and saw him one saturday morning and he reprogrammed the alarm and two new key fobs that work from about 40 feet away, first time, every time! It cost me £150 which i think is money incredibly well spent.

I also have a 95 Chimaera and had problems with one of the alarm keyfobs not working, it stopped about a year after getting the car and replacing the fob battery did not make any difference. The symtoms were that the fob light came on but the car did not respond.
In the end I bought a new fob (around £40) from a place I found on the internet (I think it was called Bridgewater electronics...I could look it up when I am home if you want). They gave good customer service and it came with clear instructions.
When it arrived it had to be 'programmed' to the car which was easy but involved removing the dashboard top. Took about an hour to do (mostly this was removing and replacing the dashboard top).

Should also add he did exactly the same thing for me, very pleased, bloody nice chap even got a couple of cups of tea.

He must owe me a free Amp or Boot lock kit by now the amount of times i've reccomended him :-)

Thanks your replies have done the holding left button down 4 secs then press again suggestion but does not work. Will try Bridgewater electrics if anybody has a contact. TVRUK a long way from Dorset.

N.E.Way, here y'are....

Meta Alarm Fob Resynching Procedure.

1) You must have a working fob.

2) With the working fob, activate/deactivate the alarm 8 times (i.e. 8 x on, and 8 x off) the alarm will not take any more actions beyond this anyway. All other fob details will be deleted at this point (apart from the one used for the 16 actions).

3) Within 8 seconds, activate the new fob, the system will respond with a change of state (it may require a couple of attempts), the details of the new fob are then added to the data held by the system unit.

4) Any other fobs you wish to use must also be activated at this time (apart from the one used in point 2).

5) Leave the system quiet for 8 secs plus.

6) Your new fob(s) and the original one will now be synchronised with the system.

The technician did warn me that meta systems can only take 3 fobs i.e. two original fobs plus one replacement fob, but I suspect this means a total of three fobs in the list of usable fobs.

Thanks your reply has the 95 Chim got a meta alarm mine I think a Foxguard? Anyhow no harm in trying

Martyn, take a look at this thread - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=54293&f=8&h=0&hw=foxguard+fob it might be worth contacting ribol (last contributor) before you go about using Meta programming methods on a Foxguard system. I wouldn't want you blaming me for any problems resulting!
