Diff refurb on 1996 model?

Car covered approx 75,000 miles on same GKN diff.

No issue with it at present, but have chance to refurb due to removal from chassis.

Wasting money,or is there a benefit dispite the piece of mind factor?

Id say change the fluid and if it's clean (no metal bits) and it sounded fine before you took it out leave well alone.

They're never exactly the same after they've been rebuilt so I'd save your money unless it's essential.
