Alternative Rear Calipers

Morning all,

I have fitted hi spec rear calipers to my car 6 years ago, these were the Sierra 2 lug variant also used on the Radcal and any SVA cars.

I have the hi spec billet 4 fronts and they are great, but the rears look and perform well apart from the hand brake which is not good...
They now offer a new alternative with a separate hand brake pad which looks great but you need to use cable and clamps rather than the nice Sierra OEM hand brake cable. I want to retain the standard cable rather than the cable/clamp tractor fitment ..

Can any one recommend an after market rear caliper with a decent handbrake otherwise I will fit new original Sierra ones again.

I have what I think you're referring to fitted to the rears on mine. It does have a separate hanbrake caliper of sorts which operates fairly simply with an adjustable lever which pulls one small pad against the disc forcing the opposite pad over. With some minor modification I have retained the original handbrake cable arrangement and it does work to a degree, no handbrake turns and I use it sparingly as adjustment is a fine art which I haven't yet fully mastered. It should get me through the MOT if I adjust it to the point of drag just prior to test. I'll sort out a couple of photos later & post them up.

No matter what calliper, the handbrake is marginal.

Good enough for parking but not handbrake turns which is a shame..........

It's all down to the handbrake/lever angle/cable pickup point etc.

Interested to hear of a better alternative.

Just about to fit hispec rear calipers to mine, have the six pot units up front. The rear calipers will only fit the 400 chimaera style bracket NOT the 500 as I found out at my cost. Hispec have updated the handbrake parking, you can get the cable to fit with some faffing.

sorry they don't show the handbrake pads but you can see the lever arrangement. I did have the brackets altered by Hi-Spec to my measurements as I have 300 mm discs fitted to match the fronts, supplied by WMS.
