Tvr power chip
Discussion
Oh if it was that simple- TVR have already modified the fuel map to suit the car, so I dont know how much more can be done to a generic map. To offer an improvement is basically saying it was not done properly in the first place! There has been quite a lot of work going on in the background to bring the ECU programming up to date, as the origination Lucas software is pretty poor, but then around 1994 a lot of the bugs where sorted out by Lucas an upgrade called operation pride, but I think the TVR's missed out on this as they where using old base code. The current thinking is to use the best of the Lucas code, combined with the TVR map. This is being just for the fun of it, with no commercial considerations so its suck it and see basis. Ultimately if you want to fine tune your map, it needs a session on the rolling road to see if its out in the first place, but bear in mind things will a have changed on your engine since it rolled out of the factory, so things like clogged injectors will alter the fuelling, making it look like the fuel map is wrong. You have to make sure every thing else is spot on before you consider remapping.
Have a drive up to Chesterfield ,get it on the rolling road then let Jools "Kits & Classics" map the "14CUX" for you .
Forget those "best guess maps" and silly chips ,Jools will burn you a bespoke one for your engine .
There is more than one Tuner who can map these days .
You can stay at QBee`s over night ,he invites everyone

Hi Trevor, I can recommend getting a new chip but my experience is that off the shelf jobs do not work so well, really it needs to be a bespoke map for the car to see any benefit. The best guess chips I have had on mine in the past have been purely a map to be able to get the car to a rolling road to be mapped.
I would personally save my money and either go for a Mark Adams session or perhaps Dom's MBE offering in the future. Or the sensible thing would be to forget all 3 options and spend the money on fuel and just go and enjoy the car.
Brands on the 2nd?

The issue is when the ECU is in closed loop, (up to 3400 rpm) the fueling is fixed anyway, so even when the map is out a bit, the ECU will just go ahead and fix the fueling anyway, so its not easy to get any more MPG with any sort of emission control in place, as it prevents the engine running leaner where any MPG savings would be made. You have more scope with the mapping if you dont run catalysts, but that makes MOT's a bit of an issue. One area that you can make improvements is the peak power drop off point, as the TVR map reaches peak fulling at around 5400 rpm, and beyond that the amount of fuel remains the same per combustion cycle. As the engines volumetric efficiency starts to drop off, the amount of air available reduces, so effectively the mixture becomes over rich, which causes the power to drop off sharply. The way to overcome this is to extend the fuel map up to say 6200 rpm, so you can reduce the fuel if needs be to keep the mixture correct, so the power does not drop off due to mixture.

This is a really good comment. Brands on the 2nd?
I was once told by a plummer that my boiler was old an inefficient, and I should get a new one - £3k, I think he said. I would then save money on my heating bills. I worked it out at about £100-150 a year, meaning I would get my money back in about 20 years. By which time I would have moved house, or the new boiler would be dead anyway. I passed on the boiler.
If the primary goal is fuel economy, then work out carefully how many miles you'll have to do to pay back the cost of the conversion.

I had a TVR Power Eprom upgrade for my 4.3 once. It turned out to be exactly the same as the one I had in the car (which was updated once a couple of years before because of the wrong software being on it according to an invoice I got with the car).
At least then (2009?) the Power chip seems to have been nowt more than the lastest version of the factory software...
