The Chim (99 450) died on me on this morning, and wouldn’t restart. It turned over but wouldn’t catch, and the breakdown man, when he arrived, said fuel startvation.

This is what happened:

Drove back from Yorkshire early Monday morning.
Ran low on fuel (but no stuttering), filled up near Stanstead.
Drove another 35 miles, and the car died on me about 3 miles from my house in Bromley (lots of fuel, energetic turning over, but will not catch).

Now, the alarm plipper won’t work. I used the immobiliser key to disarm immobiliser before it would turn over. Now it will not even turn over, but battery isn’t flat, and I cannot lock the car.

What do you think?

Perhaps I ran so low on fuel that muck got into the system and there is a blockage somewhere. Cannot work out why that would cause the alarm immobiliser to misbehave though. Any ideas?

Richard

Firstly, is your fuel pump priming after disarming?

Do you have a second fob or new battery for it?

Second fob yes, same result.

How do I tell if pump is priming?

Should be able to hear it, over your left shoulder.

Not the fusable link is it.

Mine died and would not start. did wierd things with the electrics.

It is on the chassis underneath the drivers side of the car.

It is quite common for this to go.

Might be worth checking.

No fuel pump to be heard. Maybe the inertia cut-out? The bible says under the passenger side dash, but I cannot find it.

I would check for voltage at the pump next and then trace it back.

If there is supply to the pump then remove the pump.

put a set of jump leads on the car and jump it off another if the battery is low ish then it will cause the alarm to fireup and not start.
as for the pump listen to hear it prime the system before u start the engine ignition on listen, you should hear a high pitched whine if u do then try starting it. next try for a spark at the spark plugs the rotor arm is a common fault on the v8

Inertia cut-out should not affect locking (ignoring the fact that you haven't reported anything that might trip it).

Only just got my first Chimaera, but have noticed that unless you turn the ignition on within 15 secs of dissarming the system, the fuel injection pump doesn't activate unless the alarm fob has been pressed. Could it be an alarm problem not allowing pump and ignition?

Your pump has died, or the relay for it. The central locking/alarm is confused, it happens.
When you fit a replacement pump cover the thing in waxoyl cos it's very exposed. The CL should sort itself out once the car fires up
