Got one, it went straight on, no gasket just used this, no leaks.

Also used DIRKO sealant before, very good but twice the price.

Make sure surfaces are super clean, apply sparingly, bolt up sump but not tight.

Allow to cure for a few hours then nip up.

Hi Nigel - did you get the windage tray as well?

Mat had no problems fitting mine, just using sealant like Peter's. Mine is without windage tray, I think Peter's is with. The only person I heard having problems with fitting was Daz, who took his to Willow for fitting......and I think his was a standard baffled rather than a larger capacity, and his engine may not be standard.

BTW, you will need 9.5 litres of the good stuff to fill it.

yikes 10 litres of oil. I'd be making a mess all over the floor as my waste catch can only holds 7.5 litres hehe

I am sure Daz will tell us who rebuild and fitted his engine?

He took it to them to fit. Daz mainly gets the professionals to fit things for him, like I do.

No windsge tray as I don't see the point, plus mine has a long throw crank and don't know if it would fit. Yes I know it's a lot more oil hence fhe post about oil choice. If I went for millers it would 120quid for a oil change !, decided to go for penrite premium 10 84 quid for 10 litres

It would seam the consensus is just use sealant no gasket

I don't think the sump fitting and the oil loss issue are even slightly related

At least that negates his poorly fitting sum. I wonder who fitted it first time of asking?

IIRC his catastrophic oil loss was due to a badly fitted oil cooler sandwich plate or sensor. Cannot remember which. It was nothing to do with the sump.
He took the sump to Willow to fit, as it's an easier job on a ramp. His was a standard baffled one, and again IIRC he had issues with the crank touching the baffles.

So Anthony is his crank non standard? Or bent and damaged baffles? I wonder who fitted the oil cooler and plate. Was it Willow?

I don't know for sure, but am pretty certain that Willow had nothing to do with the oil cooler.
I don't go to Willow myself (except when I lose brake calliper bolts!) as i am a Mat Smith client, but Nick and all the Willow crew are very good at their jobs and very careful.

As for his crank, no idea. I do know that the standard Mulfab baffled sump can be a pretty close fit.

Let me explain

The reason my name is Siliconekid is bacause i liberally applied oil resistant silicone on the sump causing catastrophic damage to the engine, that was years ago

I since had a new engine built ,the problems with the sump was because i forgot to mention to fulbab about the engine spec ,the crank catches the sump so they have to be pressed like the one`s fitted to the 5l engines ,Willow sorted it because they have a press .

The sudden loss of oil was unexplained , i have put it behind me ,As a precaution the oil pump was replaced and new big ends were fitted because one was scored. Its now back together running like a dream ,all 345hp is going very well. laugh

Dear silicone, so was you mulfab jobbie standard baffled sump ?, or the extra capacity sump ?

I have the extended capacity sump, which has a bit welded on the front, question for Peter , did yours fit ok ? And what was it ?

5.4 or 5.5 are long throw cranks and can hit the standard sump at the front

5900 will do it!.. don't bother about the gasket... only problem you'll have is getting it back off (or is that why you are fitting the gasket?)

My extended baffled sump fitted perfectly, no adjustments necessary.

Weird that yours didn't fit Daz. Rob?

I assume the 5.3 has a longer crank as well? So far, so good, with the baffled sump and larger capacity. Another vote of support for the instant gasket type stuff (And also having Peter to help fit it!) The last sump leaked like a sieve and this one seems fine.
