Washed and fettled the pride and joy today.

Had the bonnet up, inspected the vitals and decided to add a bit of water to the coolant.

It was only down an inch or two so I grabbed the first thing in the kitchen that came to hand (an empty Evian bottle), half filled it and headed back outside to top up the car. As I was doing so a neighbour walking past asked me if I always used Evian in my radiator.

I told him of course I did and that I thought everyone else did too. I also said that I'd tried Perrier but the bubbles in it confused the temp sensor which thought the water was boiling and illuminated the warning light.

Silly bugger muttered "Oooh, really" and wandered off.

Yes, but as he did so he was probably thinking thus:

don't the bubbles give the TVR that unique burbling noise though?

I have absolutely no problem with that

He is also the same guy who stopped his daily toddle round the block to tell me he'd noticed that my car was a bit loud at five o'clock in the morning. He lost interest when I told him that I'd tried to counter this by extending my house and garage and thus have somewhere to start the car without waking anyone but some miserable killjoy (mention no names, follow my eyes) had blocked the planning application.

Serves him right.

Many years ago when I owned a very wonderful, very shit, very old classic 911 I visited Skye on holiday. On the way back with my elder sis in the car I needed to clean the windscreen and we had nothing but a bottle of Perrier in the car.

So I get on to the Skye ferry, this was in the days before the bridge, get out of the car and pour the whole bottle over the windscreen whilst polishing it vigourously.

One the ferry workers looked at me in stunned amazement at this waste.

I turned to him and said, "I never use anything else..."

I had similar with the chap who runs the stables at the bottom of our yard.

I was just topping up the windscreen washer bottle with a bit of tap water in a large Diet 7up bottle when he came nosing over to see why the bonnet was up. (He just loves it when I've got a problem)

He looked at the bottle and before he could work out the obvious; I stepped in and told him that a 50/50 Diet 7up and water mix was really good in the washer bottle in summer; as the high magnesium content of the 7up acted as a really effective non abrasive cleaner that got the dead flies off better than anything else.
Of course it wasn't advisable to use ordinary 7up as that had masses sugar in it and only a total numpty would put that in.

Hook line and sinker!
Wandered off to see if his wife had any in the stables fridge to put in the 7.5 ton horse box.

No, I haven't dared ask him if it works........................

Dont you just hate it when people look so pleased to see you have a problem. I had to tell one colleague not to look so happy.

OH

About a week after I'd bought my car, I went to pick a friend of mine up from work in it. Her boss came out within seconds of my pulling up and said 'I bet you've had loads of trouble with that'.

I told him that the only trouble I'd had was all the girls stopping me at traffic lights and junctions to ask me about the car. At that point his fit secretary jumped in the passenger seat and we roared off. [jazzclubmode] Nice [/jazzclubmode].

Following on from the 7up thing....

Years ago I was driving my G reg company Escort through some damp/freezing fog conditions; meaning loads of washer jets + wiper activity. The bloody nozzles froze up so my screen just got grubbier and grubbier. Miles from anywhere and the only thing available was a 2 litre bottle of Coke - yup, it does work, unfroze the nozzles and topped up the reservoir - no more frozen jets!

Back in the 6Ts when we lived in Germany, my dad use to put Vodka in the washer bottle as it was cheaper than antifreeze from the Naafi.
