Folding rear screen......

For the first time today, I had both the time and the weather to go out in the Chimaera (had it for a whole ten days) with the roof down. SOOOOO good to hear that exhaust note with roof off. Easy to get off, less easy to go into the boot...even harder to get out! (I hear there's a bag of sorts to protect it?). Uppon folding down the rear screen, it went into allsorts of crinckled shapes and was impossible to 'fold' smoothly. Is this normal? is there a knack to it? Couple of hours and a tank of petrol later, when re-roofing, it looked like it needed an iron.
Any tips greatfully recieved. P.S. and a Happy New Year to you all!

Congratulations on your new toy, you'll have many happy hours playing with it. The roof is a fiddle, it's easiest if you drop one side in almost completely then the other and reverse for taking it out. You'll have it nailed after a few goes but mind the paintwork! (I learnt that a little too late...) As for the rear window, TADTS. I often put a travel rug in the fold if the roof's going to be off for a long run.

Hi Steve,
Just a word of caution, It may be advisable to just remove the roof panel and drive targa style in the cold weather, because the plastic rear screens dont enjoy being folded back at the best of times,and you could find that the creases you describe in the plastic screen will soon develop into splits and an expensive replacement.
As already mentioned, if you really feel you have to lower the rear section in winter a rolled up large towel pushed into the screen when lowering will help reduce creasing.

steve, good luck and have fun, nb: keep brain in contact with right foot over the winter...

leven accesories do an easy access cover for the lid.

do watch it on the paint work, don't try to put it in the boot by ear; nasty scratches result.

Thanks, seems quite a thick plastic on the rear screen, was surprised that hood didn't fold down more, perhaps I hadnt pushed down enough as couldn't see through rear mirror. I'll price those bags up and have a practice getting roof in and out, cheers for info.

Steve, When folding the rear section of the roof down make sure the fabric is pushed clear of the seatbelt mounting points and the roof should be able to be pushed down a little bit more.

When the rear section is down, you will find that the rear mirror view will be obstructed, believe it or not this not unusual, just part of day to day living with a TVR

Steve, also ensure that the seatbelt straps themselves don't come into contact with the folded plastic screen, as after time, they will wear into the screen material....like mine has !

Cheers. Have just had a look and the crinkles and have almost gone after 28hrs, at least by torch light. Will keep above posts glued to forehead when out next! Many thanks. Is there a solution of some kind to get the milky appearance from the plastic?

Regarding the rear window,I followed the tips in this forum and went for the Renovo stuff, the results are stunning.

A tip i was given after folding my roof and splitting the plastic screen, was to run the car with the roof up and the heater on for as long as possible.

Once the rear screen is warm, it will fold much easier.

You will notice how much eaiser the roof is to fold away in the summer.
