Oil Change Question
Discussion
Morning,
Going to get the mechanics at work to do an oil change between services for me. Having read the bible it warns about the chances of the oil pump draining. How quickly should the new oil go in to avoid this? I'll obviously warn them to check the pressure on start-up as well.
My dad (HGV mech for 40 years) had never heard of this with his landrover V8, wonder if the pumps are different?
Cheers for any advice.
PS - Am thinking about using Shell Helix Ultra which is 5w40 synthetic - cos I can get trade, any opinions on this oil?
- Yes, I know this subject's been done to death :-) -

Don't hang about is the best advice. It has happened and is a real risk. Drain the oil. Change the filter, Pour in oil. Do not pass go. Do not answer the phone. Do not go the toilet and you should be alright.

Cheers Steve, that's pretty much what I thought - will impress on the lads not to have a tea break in between!
Re the oil - I guess 5w40 will be better than the 0w40 mobil one in there at the mo - shell also do a 10w 40 semi-synthetic but I think I'll avoid that - might investigate some other synthetics but the helix will be nice and cheap!
