I was experiencing severe shunting, a high idle dropping down slowly and engine revs staying high when slowing for junctions etc, I checked the usual and ecu reset but no change, I then removed the dissy cap and found a small amount of verdigris on the posts and some burning on the tip of the rotor arm. I cleaned them up and thought nothing more about it as I haven't heard or read that this can contribute to it, I then checked the timing and found it spot on, there was no play in the dissy, so still scratching my head drove home! Boy what a drive, the old girl just wanted to pull and pull and pull, no sign of shunting and the idle is spot on! It may just be coincidence but I regularly check that plug leads are on and its a fairly new cap and arm. I am not saying that its the cure for shunting but I thought I would share as if only person benefits then it was worth writing this post.

my shunting was a loose engine mount, that was a nice easy fix too! Glad you got yours sorted.

The only thing I can think of, is that the king lead is/was faulty or not fully home in the cap. And now it is!.
The old girl really wants to go though to the point I was thinking that the speedo was climbing far to fast but the sat nav confirmed it was only over reading by the usual 5-6 mph. Whatever has happened, I want it to stay like it.
