Have a 99'T Chim that is feeling a bit sorry for itself....
The issue is power loss, only for a second here and there but its getting worse! We can't drive it up hill any more as the rev requirements are too much for the engine to cope with so it stalls! We now have to leave our house in reverse!!! It is like a hiccup or kangaroo and generally does it on a rev increase but can happen at 5mph or 60mph! It really does jolt the car but otherwise it is running OK - no strange noises. We have replaced the sparks/leads/dissy but makes no difference...... could it be something to do with air or fuel getting to the engine?? HELP ANYONE? Is it common?

Had a similar problem with a Ford Escort. It gradually got worse until we couldn't get more than 40 out of it and it also used an awful lot of petrol. Also it would only rev up to 3000rpm. Turned out to be a broken cat. I know it's not a TVR but it could be worth checking.

This sounds like fuel starvation. Very week mixture will run the car but put some load on and there's no power left. One thing comes to mind. The fuel pump motor is powered via a relay in the battery compartment. It gets a signal from the ECU also in the battery compartment. You may have a loose connection that is normally OK but when the car is off the level it may struggle to make connection. Easy way to check. Start the engine and move the ECU and relay loom around. See if you hear clicking. If you do then you have a loose connection. It is quite common for loose or damp connections in this area so it's always worth a look.
