Throttle cable ??

Car is running beautifully but a mile from home the car started over revving. Quick blip of accelerator and it stops. When putting it back in the garage it happened again. Could this be the cable starting to fray?

Maybe the butterfly in the plenum is a bit sticky

Check the two springs on the mount next to the plenum chamber, close to windscreen. These can seize up a little over time.

Thank you chaps a little wd40 on the springs near the plenum has sorted it. Surprise surprise when pulling up at a junction or stopping it idles on about 1200 revs then settles down after 5-10 seconds. Stepper motor??

Most likely. Whip the thing out and give it a good clean, same with the stepper motor housing...it'll be full of crud.

You will need a fairly big spanner or adjustable - I can't remember the exact size but I think you need a 12" adjustable as a 10" will not fit.

Also take care removing and more importantly replacing it. Do not over tighten as there is a chance you can crack the housing.

Remove the housing first. Place vice with soft grip jaws. Soak stepper motor with releasing fluid. Do not use heat. Ease out SM and clean both components.

When re-installing, re-fit housing first with new gasket, carefully torque up 3no screws and be sure to use a small amount of copper slip on each. Once set, re-install SM with new washer. Job done...
