The 430 BV IS NEAR!

Hello all, happy new year!

It has been a while since I have said hello and thought I'd carry on with the update from months ago.

Today for the first time, a rebuilt 430 BV started finally with some easy start ..misfired though unfortunately, will change all spark plugs and rotor arm/dizzy cap and see if any better.

I have a question about an earth cable, i cant find anywhere it goes and I think I remember it went on the front crossmember...the other end? Pff no idea! Any one might know? ..

I think it is on the NS where the steering goes, near the wishbones! And theres one behind the offside head, impossible to get to with the engine in

Sorry, what is the electrical component it is earthing to? I just have a bit of wire with 2 circles either end ready to go in somewhere...

its for earthing the engine block

any clean m8 sized bolt on the block will do and then bolted to the chassis or the battery earth post

On my 430 one fixing point is on the outrigger top. This is driverside front. This is near the steering shaft.The other end is onto engine somewhere ( I cant get the bonnet up at the moment to check as theres a new bath resting on it. Dont ask)

So I earth the engine block to, somewhere on that outrigger or crossmember and that will give me the spark I require? Im confuzzled :/

Yes I made the mistake of not connecting this after I did a bit of a fettle and it ran like cack. Then I realised id not tightened it up. I also had all sorts of lights on the dash flashing until I nipped it back up.

Hmmm....mine is not a cable, it is very much thinner than that, i'll try and post a picture first thing in the morning! Could you explain why the engine block would need earthing for it to have a spark? ... We did all sorts of tests, injectors were wetting the spark plugs, the coil lead to dizzy cap had an awesome spark, for some reason the rest of the spark plugs were cack....are we on the same lines?

Engine to chassis to battery
All tight and clean
Wire -brade just make sure there linked and are sound

I think a good earth is paramount to these engines and ignition systems. It will however try any route possible to earth itself, hence alarming lights on the dash when mine wasnt correctly wired. If in doubt use a good sized jump lead put one end on the engine and the other on the negative terminal of the battery. See if you get a good spark at the plugs then. Just a suggestion but as other guys have said you need a good earth.

Sorry cant do tonight, I just went into my garage earlier to get the other photo for you but I cant get my car bonnet up as Ive got a new bath resting on it. I will see if I can move it in the morning and photo where its connected to. The cable that is not the bath.

Your main earth is allready good as was demonstrated by the efficient cranking and healthy spark from coil the small earth lead you have is to earth or assist to earth something specific whatiti as yet cant figure out

I think checking the injector wiring might be a good idea the left hand bank 1357 or passenger side should have yellow blue and brown orange the right hand bank 2468 drivers side should have yellow white and brown orange water temp sender has red black and green blue wires fuel temp sender on fuel rail has grey white red black.

The grounds for the dizzy & senders etc are vonnected at the rear of the head, behind pot 7 ~ but tricky to get to with the 430 era ventilation ducting hiding them.

Morning good news! Injector wiring is as described..here is the picture of the earth wire!

I'm going to go get some spark plugs in a minute and see if those work.
