I'm in the middle of changing my leaky PAS pipes with the fancy ones from John Zubak and I had a good poke round the front end of the chassis ('cos I spilled a load of PAS fluid acensorede)

I found three things:
1. Lots of the powder coat has come off and the chassis is starting to rust really well, eekeek
2. Lots of the powder coat is simply loose and comes off with a finger nail and it's rusty underneath, yikes
3. It's almost impossible to get to most of the chassis with the body on.

So it's off to R T Racing at the start of March for a chassis refurb.smashbiggrin

I'll have it painted (2 pack epoxy) rather than powder coated (Richard says that 10% of the chassis are now painted not coated) and I'll get some other bits done at the same time.

I'll write a blog and take lots of photos during the strip down and rebuild so you can see the progress.

Watch out for future posts.

I was in exactly the same position this time last year. Went in for outriggers (which weren't too bad) and powder coating flew off every other part of the chassis as soon as it was looked at. All solid but nicely rusty underneath.

Total (expensive) no brainer. Full strip down, shot blast, refurb, zinc coated, epoxy and all back together again. It'll out see me now. Ha! New shocks and clutch while it was in a million pieces. Bloody marvellous!!! smile

You will be poorer but you won't regret it. thumbup

Getting the body lift done now rather than later when refurbs prices start rising and no need to worry about a rotten Blackpool chassis any longer.

Had my out riggers replaced last year, how much is it costing you as my mechanic made the riggers to fit exactly and very reasonably priced too.
Mine were proper mullered fell to bits in your hands

Different places vary in price. Lots off a variables on quality of welding quality of steel, man hours and experience. its best to see how each company engineer them sleeving between pipes and welding doesn't look like bird poo before you take the plunge. If the price seems too good to be true there's a reason for that. But its not an assurance that the most expensive will be the best as most of the bigger TVR specialists contract the work out so that is something else to look for?

Good job!

You could quickly hot dip galv those. Alternatively, pour and fill-up inside with a cold galv paint, such as Zinga, before using it to coat the outside. Messy, but it would treat both sides. Just a thought.

Had them drilled and filled with in coloured wax oil , welded the drill hole and then wax oiled the underside.
