Guernsey 1.86 per litre Super Unleaded!

Just took the 450 to Guernsey for new year. Back in 2012 Super Unleaded was several pence cheaper than here. Unleaded still is at 1.05 but only two petrol stations on the island sell Super & I paid 1.86 (one pound & 86 pence!) FILL UP BEFORE YOU GO if like me you only put in Super Unleaded (& don't mind the 35mph limit!) Good pose around the island though!!

Somehow I get the feeling that with a 35mph speed limit, one wouldn't really be needing super unleaded.

When I had a Chimaera 500 in 2001 / 02, I didn't always use super (Shell Vpower now, called something else then), and it was at low revs round town that it pinked using normal unleaded. At cruising speeds on the motorway, it didn't seem to mind.

I've had a 400 since Nov 2013 and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Compression is the same 10:1 according to the handbook. It also may be down to improvement in fuel technology of course, the introduction of ethanol being a whole other debate (I don't think the UK has adopted a 10% allowance yet)

Tax is only 50p per litre in Jersey and Guernsey with no vat so the petrol station was having your pants down

Yep, but they say that they have to import all petrol and consequently it is cheaper than here but not the full 20% (no vat) as their cost is higher. With the number of wealthy islanders they have, those that do drive around the place in Bentleys, Ferraris & the odd TVR don't worry too much on cost. 15 litres @ 1.86 pence per litre lasted me 4 days on an island that is only 12 miles long by 4-5 wide so didn't break the bank!
