I am currently dismantling my engine to fit MLS gaskets and some freshen up work.
Noticed the last inlet gasket i fitted in a hurry didnt quite line up with my ported 500 heads.

Is there a gasket available for these heads or do we just modify to fit properly?

I modified the OE gasket, fitted first and just pinched up the bolts then took off to reveal indentation where it needed to be cut with a dremmel. Not heard of a 500 inlet gasket.

Not so me ole mate, used to do this years ago. Did the same with my exhausts using an old inlet gasket to get pattern and see where exhaust manifold faces needed work. Not as accurate as other methods but easier for me wink

What did TVR used to do for these - did they come modified from the factory, or was a standard gasket used..?

Surely a standard gasket defeats the point of any porting, so an enlarged gasket must be bought/produced when a ported intake manifold fitted..?

Thanks,

Dom

On the 2 500's I have seen used intake man gaskets on Dom they were stock scratchchin in all fairness the stock TVR500 heads are not huge around the openings so the mismatch is not great if not ideal wink I am sure this was how they was shipped as one of the cars I mentioned had only done 18k eek

I guess the later composites are designed for landrover 4.6's and not too far off.
Mine mismatch worst st the bottom due to more than one head skim session

You should worry more about how well the manifold to head ports line up, try bluing all the surfaces and clamping down..

tip; use some compressable polystyrene (old pizza bases etc) as they leave a nice imprint and you can slice through to see which parts need matching....

Did you not have the inlet manifold faces skimmed also? Especially if your using thinner 'cometic' head gaskets over standard composite. scratchchin
