Evening all.

I have just put the car on axle stands and pulled the wheels off for the routine bit of winter TLC. Been 4 years since I rebuilt/powder coated the arms, bushes, brakes, Ball Joints, rod ends etc etc. All scrubbing up like new and the chassis giving me no concerns at all.
However, I had the rad re-cored about 4 years / 7k miles ago and noticed the dreaded blue coolant dew drop dangling from the front underside hole in the body. A very small leak, so small in fact it has used no coolant at all this year. As it will play on my mind now, I'll probably drain the system and get it done AGAIN. Just 2 things I have not done before I would like your advice on chaps especially whilst the system is drained.

1. New hoses. Are they easy to fit? I cant even see where some of them start and end!
2. Thermostat. I am still on the original one and would really like to replace it. I get the impression it is a bit of a bh and I am particularly worried about disturbing the dizzy and knackering up the timing. Am I just being paranoid?

How tight is it in the locating holes?

My last Chim had had a new rad fitted just before I bought it and had a leak in a matter of months. Dan Taylor advised to make sure the mounting holes are open enough as to not put it under pressure. The new one was going strong after 4 years when I sold it.

Have you got Silicone hoses ?
They are known to 'relax' and need retightening.

Remember not to fit Siliconekid, that can cause a lot of trouble

My hoses are original and although they show no signs of damage, under the bonnet of a TIV can be an extreme environment for rubber hoses. The re-cored rad I installed 4 years ago did feel a bit tight to re-install (presumably down to it being welded back together a few millimetres wider apart).
What are the silicon hose kits like to fit, an easy DIY job?

Ive just taken it all apart to fit new ones, they can be quite hard to take off! Best to cut them with a sharp knife i guess...

olevix - I can see with some kits there are 2 long hoses that disappear off in to the offside wing. What do they connect to and how is access to them gained?

IIRC one goes from the plenum area to the carbon canister (front corner)to create a vacuum, and I suspect the other is for the power steering?
