I just had a full new clutch kit fitted. Not sure what type but it's just a standard 400 so something standard. Anyway it makes a very noticeable noisy bearing sound when I dip the clutch after starting the car. This will last however long it takes to get moving but only when the pedal is down. Once warmed up from driving the sound doesn't happen anymore. I thought it might be the thrust bearing but wouldn't that be constant? The garage have offered to drop the box and Sort it but they are a long way from my home so want to be sure this sound won't disappear as the clutch beds in. Any ideas what it could be?

Thrust bearing definitely.
I had exactly the same last year. New clutch fitted but the thrust bearing wasn't pressed on correctly causing a flats on the bearing. Only slight flat, you would hardly see it, but made a hell of a noise.
Once warm you didn't hear it. The garage that fitted the clutch were not helpful at all so have lost my business.
A mate helped me fit a new one, thanks again Colin.

We think the damage to Micks thrust bearing was caused by the garage putting the bearing in a press and using the outer edge of the bearing to press it home. The bearing was brand new.

Thanks for your responses, it sounds exactly like mine as it was a new bearing in mine too. I assume this won't cause any damage to drive with? Just an annoying sound. I'll take it back and take them up on their offer to replace it.

after putting in a new one (plastic hammer will do) you might need to hone the inside of the bearing a bit to make it a loose fit, should not be tight fit!

confused the release bearing should be an interference/press fit on the carrier do not remove material or you will have bigger problems, I also recommend changing the bronze spigot bearing while your in there it's not exactly hard wearing wink you can press the bearing onto the carrier using the bearings inner collar this puts no strain on the race and is the correct method smile spigot wear will cause screeching noises also and left long enough in a worn state will cause your gearbox input shaft bearings to fail x 2 frown the original design for this gearbox was a caged needle bearing i.e Sierra Cosworth/Mustang not a solid bush scratchchin
