Either the battery is dead or I've blown a fuse, but either way I can't get in the boot. Can anyone help?

Okay, I'm now in the boot and have hooked up some jumpers....Still nothing frown

Is there a fuse behind the dash? There was a noise behind the dash when I tried to start it the first time.

Symptoms? Is the fuel pump priming, battery light on the dash, is there a click from the starter motor when you turn the key?

Completely dead even with jump leads on. It sounded like something popped when I tired to start it. Possibly in the dash area?

My battery went dead and even with jump leads connected to a new battery it would'nt start. Once I swopped over the batteies so the new one was connected and the alarm turned on and off a couple of times it fired up. Have you tried setting the alarm and then turning it off again.

It's anyones guess with the battery being in the boot. If you don't have the battery light on with a set of jump leads attached then there must be a break in the live between the battery and alternator. There's usually a 100amp fuse in the passenger footwell on the battery cable, but it could be anywhere now seeing as the battery has been moved. Follow the cable from the battery to the front of the car is the only way now..

I have no power in the car at all, even the lights don't work. Can't activate the alarm or the immobiliser to try resetting. I think it's a fuse, but no idea where to start, and neither does the recovery company....who can't even tow it as it's so low frown

You will need to check the fuses. If the battery has been moved to the boot, where is the fuse board?

Check in the passenger footwell, that is where it was when it came out of the factory.

When you find the fuse box follow the thick cable that feeds it inline somewhere there is probably a black fuse box about 5cm long. Suspect that has blown.

There's a 100 amp fuse on the chassis rail, drivers side by the front wheel. It could be that one but I doubt it if you're not getting anything at all with a set of jump leads attached.

Thanks guys.

The fuses are in the footwell from the look of it, but it's too dark to see anything. Can't see anything under the drivers side!

Looks like I'm going to have to leave it hear for the night and figure it out tomorrow, I have no light and no torch. I will come back armed with the SH bible and some light!

If you heard a pop from the dash area could it be the cut off emergency switch

I believe that just cuts the pump.

The 100 amp fuse on the chassis rail next to the sump just stops the battery from being charged.

It could be the 100amp fuse in the footwell.

It's on a straggly black thick cable iirc hanging by the fuse box.

If it's an early car these don't all have them.............

Mine is apparently one of the earliest still on the road, being one of the batch of 15 made right after the prototype, so Im guessing mine won't have the 100 amp in the foot well. I certainly didn't find anything like that whilst I was rummaging around down there, but then it was very dark.
I will see if I can find the one to the alternator tomorrow and check that isn't the problem.
