mot emissions without precats...

I have no precats in my 4.3 and it failed miserably on mot emissions (dont think they run it up hot anyway!) - any idea on if you can pass without them?

It should run through the MOT on the main cat quite happily- the precats are there just to reduce the emission before the main cat gets hot. You are likley to have a problem elsewhere like a failing AFM , or dead lambda probe (assuming you are still running the white tune resistor and have the lambda probes connected.)

What Blitz said and the car needs to be hot and run at a fast idle to get the cat up to temp, no half measures will do.

What they said. Mine has no main CAT but does have precats and it passed.

I spoke to my MOT tester who advised it to be nice and warm, pre cat only needed for cold start till cat warms up.

So get out and using it before taking to the garage to be fully warmed up should be fine.

Applies to all pre manifold combined cat cars (late stuff) to be honest

Mine went through as a "'94 Non Cat Vehicle" according to its last MOT with no CATs in at all...

Unless you have put one back in, you only have pre-cats!

There is a bit of discretion over 92 / 93 cars because some cars were manufactured without a cat and languished on airfields and in showrooms and weren't sold until after the start date (Aug 1992 I think). I seem to remember noting the amount of K reg Ford Sierras about at the time for example.

Imported cars going through SVA and low volume kit cars have rules of their own too. I'm sure a 'friendly' MoT tester could pass a TVR...

I have had the pre cats and main cat removed on a 93. I have a friendly testing station

:binned: are full of fking wk bks if you ask me!!! fking failed it for a wheel bearing that doesn't even have play in it!! and a bunch of other st that should of been an advisory...god allfkingmighty - i thought the days were over for friendly testing!!

I know of a certain TVR with no cats which passed emissions, in fact it read very similar to a Ford Fiesta, it was a miracle.
