Mil light on dash & water temp guage!!

Morning,
Picked up my first Chim on Sunday and have a couple of quick questions;
Firstly the Mil light on the dash flickers on when I turn the fan on low but is not fully lit, if I turn the fan off or turn it up to a higher speed it goes out. Any ideas before I book it in to be checked.
Also, the water temp guage works fine at a standstill but when driving hardly moves from its off position (50-60 deg), is this normal for driving in the cold weather?

Hi, MIL flicker sounds like a bad earth.

Temp gauge, again it could be a dodgy connection, clean up the connectors and see if the problem goes away.

not sure on the MIL light but the temperature level thats pretty normal for this time of year. all that cool air will do it the world of good.

Any chance someone knows where I can look to check the earths or point me to the right section in the 'bible' as I didn't purchase much technical knowledge when I bought the car.

Tony start the car from cold and wait until the fans cut in to check the temp gauge, note what it reaches and when the fans cut in.

Be careful of the engine temp at this time of year, you shouldn't really push the car until it's past 70 degress, at this time of year it can be difficult so what I tend to do on a run is slot a piece of cardboard between the front of the rad and the body only leaving one third of the rad exposed. Makes a great improvement.

Does it have any cooling mods?

To be honest mate I'm not sure, its got the uprated fans due to being facelift but unaware of any mods. Rob didn't point any out on his inspection. I drove it 130 miles home and the guage hardly moved yet I can see it move up when at a standstill, was bloody cold that day though. Rob mentioned the fans cut in properly at the correct temp etc but I'll check myself tonight.
P.S. regarding your previous e-mail to me - the phrase 'Pulled like a train for a 4.0' was mentioned a couple of times in my conversations with him after inspecting it.
