Boot release

Hi I have a 1996 Chimera, just recharged the battery after winner layoff, now strange things have happened,

Boot release will not work, when pressed it actually dims the instrument lights ! Tried alternativemethod to get in boot but 'special key' does not open it either. Also dimmer switch does not work on instrument lights

Any ideas ?

I had this many years ago, I'll see if I can dig our the thread...
Anyway the problem was the switch being full of dust and fiberglass bits.
Pull the switch out, disconnect, tip upside down and clear the crap out, reassemble.

Hope your issue is as simple.

Get some one to put some weight on the boot lid then press the release
Hold the button and the release the weight on the boot lid


It sounds like the solinode is stuck / stiff

Does sound as if it is the solenoid at fault with the lights dimming suggesting a load being drawn.
You could eliminate the switch by temporarily touching the 2 wires together on it

Sounds like the battery voltage might be a bit low if it's managing to dim the lights, get it running and try it then?

and double check that the leads are a tight fit on the battery posts.

I think it more likely that the latch is stuck if the manual entry way doesn't work. Jiggle the boot lid about/push down on it.

Thanks for all the sound advice, I managed to get it fixed


However I noticed that on the emergency boot release the cable has broken away from the barrel of the lock, it looks a plastic fitting has snapped on the lock. Any ideas on the best way to replace this ?
