I know its sacrilege, in a duller moment on the M25 just wondered if it had ever been done, presume you could just take all the parts from a grannie of sierra find a place for them and bolt 'em in.
Not planning it, just curious.
Hi tiger6791, I'm studying to be an auto/diesel mechanic in the U.S. and resently finish a course on brakes. My instructor said when asked this question that, it would not be cost effective. Would you really want to trust ABS components out of the scrapheap the brake fluid will have been drained out so corrosion will be a problem, which leaves buying new parts from a dealership as The best, but very expensive option. Also you would also need to have your cars ECU reprogrammed or take the one from the donor car. The reason that you don't see aftermarket ABS is that there are so many little parts that have to be supplied- wheel speed sensors, Reluctor wheels, accumulator, etc.
Trying to install ABS from a car that is a different model would be even worse as none of the wiring would match up. Don't know about the U.K but in the U.S. you get a discount from most insurance companies if your car has ABS installed.
If you have lots of time and lots of money it can be done and would be a great, fun project. It would probably make more sense to buy a car that already has ABS though.

Personally I hope that under new management the possibility of TVR fitting both ABS and Traction Control to their road cars as options becomes available.
There are a host of potential TVR owners out there who, on their road car, want these features.
Don,I take you point, but (for me at least), one of the major attractions of a TVR is it's uncompromising, driver-does-everything, balls-out attitude.
I just worry that by starting to fit driver aids, TVR may lose appeal in its (hard)core market. Fitting gizmos will also have a cost implication.
If people want ABS et al, there are plenty of other options...

To be honest, when I bought my Chimaera 500 I was scared shitless of it and if it had had TC and ABS I would probably never have switched them off.
However, because it didn't have them I've simply had to learn to drive better and am now quite confident of being able to live without them.
So, yes, some of the appeal of TVRs would indeed be lost if they were fitted because I suspect many of us would be too scared to switch them off most of the time.

surely these would give the same effect when you hit the brake pedal hard and for far less money?

Should be standard really, with deletion a no cost option...

The simple solution would be to have a switchable option. It would lose none of the appeal, please those who wanted it, and be there if you ever wanted it.
..and I'll wager insurance companies would claus their policies so that you weren't covered fully comprehensive if it was switched off at the time of an accident.
Cheers,
Matt
I doubt they would do that - never heard of that with Ferrari's.
I've had some driver training so feel comfortable without the ABS/TC, but part of me would love the TC system from a Ferrari 430, and all the other gizmos too (electronically adjustable suspension, gear shift speed, etc)...
...but thats probably cos i love gadgets more than the need for system.
If TVR's had the braking system of the Merc SLR and TC system from the Ferrari 430, i really doubt anyone would be put off.

But TVR don't play in that market. The money you pay for a Tiv pays for the speed, not the onboard toys.
To put SLR/430-type gizmos in a TVR would push the price up exponentially (especially as they would have to source the parts from a third party).
Edited to add: and the day TVR start putting paddle or other artificial gear shifts on its cars, is the day they lose my business...
