Any one else think the Griff would look nice with a body colour hard top the same shape as the soft top. I know Mr Zertec has plans for a coupe but I was looking at my car over the weekend (no change there then) and started wondering.....

What's the point? The targa section is pretty hard already. Drop it on your foot and you'll realise that under that canvas is some GRP + carbon fibre...

And since when have hard tops been any more water proof than a good well sorted TVR roof?

The thought was based around asthetics rather than strength or functionality. What would the car look like?

Not sure if the hard colour coded panel would look right with the fabric rear fold down section, but I am happy to be proven wrong.

Shame we cannot have a top as easy to put up and down as my girl friends MR2 roadster, it is a great little car with some very nice features, especialy the softtop and the easy to put on hardtop option for the winter weather.

(still prefer my Griff though)

[Maureen Lipman accent]First he buys a car with no roof, then he wants a roof [/Maureen Lipman accent]

They already did one with a roof:

A Cerbera.

There is a sketch of a griff wirh a roof - looks like a Spitfire GT6 () on the net somewhere, I'll have a look if no-ones beaten me to it..

I meant a complete hard top like the one Zertec have proposed only with the shape of the existing fabric/composite roof. Maybe one of the IT-inerant chappies who log onto this site can morph one on to a piccie of a griff?

I think it would end up looking like a BMW M Coupe (a.k.a The Pram).

If you think that is a good thing then go for it. Popular opinion does not.

Ah, don't mind me, I am just having a dense moment. If it looked as good as the full hard top for cars like the MR2, Elise, Merc. Then it could look could and be a bonus in the winter months.

Ummm... a Le Mans Cobra? a Lightweight E Type Coupe? er. a Griffith with a Le-Mans fast-back, I don't know, give us a clue. What do you think it looks like?

Well from memory I thought it looked like a Spitfire GT6,
Looking at it now it has a vague Tuscan feel about it...

Having some time on my hands - and I'm *not* in IT - I painted a hard top onto a side view of my own Griff. Fotango/Fandago/whatever is a load of arse so anyone who wants to see what a silver Griff with silver hardtop looks like, please mail me.

Thanks for the picture, John!

I like it and find the idea quite good:
A few weeks ago I stumbled over an offer of a company selling a new developed GRP removable roadster hardtop (for Jaguar XK 120/140), which looked very good.
They offered a fully assembled version in gloss black for GBP 1.495
or an unpainted self-assembly version for 1.100,
all +VAT.
For that kind of price you could put me on the order list!

You could always put your roof up and glass-fibre over it... or for even less money use papier mache and a tin of the appropriate colour gloss enamel paint... = hard top for about £10. In fact, if you vaseline the original roof first, then you can lift the new hardtop off and keep it safe during the summer!

Suppose Leven and Zertec started somewhere - papier mache button covers probably!

Better still, just glue the roof shut and paint the bugger.
