Replacing rear springs

My rear springs need replacing and, having not been off the car for 20 years as far as I can tell, I am wondering how difficult this is likely to be?
I realise the easiest way to do this is to replace both springs and dampers with new from Ben Lang but they are going to cost £450ish for the rears alone and I am wondering, as the shocks appear ok, if it is straightforward to just replace the springs or are they likely to be corroded together? Alternatively, I could get a pair of Protech coilovers for a lot less but is it acceptable to have them on the rear and original Billies on the front?
I know the top and bottom bolts will be a pig to get off but I have to remove the assembly whatever I replace!
