New hood

Thinking of getting the hood replaced, any recommendations of any places in the Surrey / Hampshire area

Be interested to see how you get on, even better if we could perhaps start a discounted group buy as i need one as well hehehe.

Options around as far as a i am aware are -

Oxted - trimming company there (european trimming co?) think they have a different name as well, but appears to be the same company, also advertise on fleabay. They were quite open to doing a slightly narrower back window for better/lower folding.

Chessington - car hood warehouse, have spoken to them a couple of times, didn't seem keen on amending back window from std size.

Both wanted car for at least a day to fit but not heard of anyone use either for recommendations.

Slightly further afield -

DAve the trimmer - good reviews here, happy to do narrower back window (he did 900ss one which looks great) up in Beds tho.

Give Monsoon a call, they did my rear screen and made a very good job of it. they will probably turn it round in about 5 or 6 hours. I think its about £370+vat

Looked at Monsoon, they want £814 to supply and fit a new hood, looking at the prices on line I might just buy the hood and try fitting it myself, you can get a Mohair hood from Mazda Hoods for £245 + the dreaded

Would also like to keep the rear window as is, as I think it looks better .

Am not a fan of the square window, i was looking for a small reduction in width but retaining standard shape to make for easier folding and it sits lower like 900ss has... trying to find the pic...

Three years ago new rear screen was £180 + VAT all in. Took no more than 5 hours. Waited and worked on my laptop using their wifi. Free coffee. Excellent service!

I bought mine from CTC/Mazdahoodshop for 270ish +vat & shipping, slightly more expensive as I wanted a colour as opposed to the black.

Over here in N.I. I really struggled to find anyone who could either supply or fit one for me so my wife and I gave it a bash last week. It really isn't that big a deal, id urge anyone who's considering a new hood to give it a go yourself.

Quick pic literally just after fitting and folded up into place, after a day out hooning in the sun yesterday it has 'settled/stretched' into a lovely fit!

I should add- they did offer it with the smaller window if I wanted however, personally, I think it looks horrendous, much prefer the standard full size one (even though it is a bit rubbish when folded).

Could you get a zip in rear screen like some other cars have, would kill 2 birds with 1 stone then, hood sits lower and no crumpled window

My hood is OK but the window was replaced a few years ago and was stitched in by a drunk with 3 thumbs by the look of some of the seams.

Anybody used the seatrepairguy ? :

What a beautiful car.....

Most people don't even know it's a smaller screen until I tell them as the shape is the same. Obviously, when you are looking for it, it is different to the original.

The major difference is that when the roof is down, the hood drops a couple of inches more than the regular hood so this means that the rear view mirror actually shows what's behind you rather than just a view of your folder up hood.

I`m not in to the square screen but if it angles slightly it follows the contour of the car .

This would be my choice with slightly more angle .

No rips and tears .sits just nice .

Sits lovely when down, must say I prefer 900SS rear window which follows the contours of the roof a bit more.

Yeah the one on A900SS looks great to be fair, very subtle and barely noticeable. Its the really small screen as above im not a big fan of but I can see its advantages.

I used EVO-STIK Timebond, comes in a blue tin from B&Q, just apply liberally with a brush and when material is down smooth it over with a credit card or similar tool to get rid of lumps of glue.
