Try and keep the leads to 7 and 5 apart; to prevent cross firing

At the moment any firing whould be good laugh

The 2 diagrams are different they are the same order but at different deg of the clock face the top one is about 180deg different

The order of the leads is correct but it depends upon how the distributor was dropped into place when originally fitted. If you have the order correct but it won't fire you need to check that you have started the sequence at the correct terminal. In theory this could be any terminal...depends how the distributor was orientated in the first place.

To check where to start (where No.1 is) remove No.1 spark plug and turn engine until No.1 piston is at TDC on the firing stroke. Your rotor arm is now facing the No. 1 terminal so carry on the sequence from there.

FROM THE RANGE ROVER MANUAL.

Hope this helps.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that the leads were on the wrong connections on the dizzy (or the plugs depending upon which way you look at it).

Hi all,
just in the process of putting the engine back together following a cam change and not sure what the position of the rotor arm should be when at TDC. I am assuming it will be somewhere between 1 and 8 and know I will need to set the timing properly once running but need to get it thereabouts for it to fire up.
Can anyone advise please?
Thanks,
Mark

As long as its around the number one cylinder contact there should be enough turn on the distibutor to set it up accurately once you're ready to fire it up.

Ideally the leading edge of the rotor arm should be approaching the number 1 contact on the cap.

The distributor rotates clockwise when viewed from the top IIRC.

That's great, many thanks.
I thought it was on the exhaust stroke when at TDC, glad I checked.
